Specimen Requirements

Blood and urine are required for this test.

Blood

Blood bag with transfusion set attached is needed, if available.

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). (Babies only:  2 CAPIJECT® [EDTA] tubes). Do not transfer blood to other containers. Send 10 mL of EDTA whole blood in the original VACUTAINERS®. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly.
Note:  Complete a transfusion reaction investigation form.

Urine
Submit an entire specimen from a random urine collection. Forward promptly.
Note:  Follow instructions in “Urine Collection—Huntsville Hospital Health System Laboratory” in “Special Instructions.”
