Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down and send 1 mL (pediatric:  0.5 mL) of serum refrigerated.

Reference Values

Negative (No rubella specific IgG antibodies detected. Patient is presumed not to have had a previous exposure to rubella through infection or vaccination.)

Equivocal (Equivocal results. Obtain an additional specimen for re-testing.)

Positive (IgG antibody to rubella detected. IgG antibody levels are at a level considered to indicate positive immunity.)
