Methodology
Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR)
(PCR is utilized pursuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)
Specimen Requirements
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Plasma
Container/Tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s)-Heparinized specimen is not acceptable.
Specimen Volume: 2.2 mL (minimum volume: 1.2 mL) of plasma
Collection Instructions: Spin down within 6 hours of draw, immediately refrigerate specimen, and freeze specimen within 12 hours of draw. Send specimen in plastic vial.
Note: 1. This test is intended to detect acute and chronic HCV infection and to monitor response to anti-HCV therapy.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)-Plain, red-top tube is not acceptable.
Specimen Volume: 2.2 mL (minimum volume: 1.2 mL) of serum
Collection Instructions: Spin down within 6 hours of draw, immediately refrigerate specimen, and freeze specimen within 12 hours of draw. Send specimen in plastic vial.
