Note: Label specimen appropriately (peak).
Container/Tube:
Preferred: Lithium heparin (light green-top)
Acceptable: Serum Gel
Serum for a peak level should be drawn 30 minutes after completion of infusion of an intravenous dose or 60 minutes after an intramuscular or oral dose of gentamicin. Draw blood, spin down and send 1 mL (pediatric: 0.2 mL) of plasma or serum.
