Reference Values

TOTAL CK
Age Male (IU/L) Female (IU/L)
0-11 months 2-129 2-146
1-6 years 2-163 2-134
7-12 years 2-217 26-145

16-17 years 2-238 13-144
>17 years 38-174 26-140

Note:  A positive CKMB on Reference Lab Patients will be treated as a critical value.
Note:  Strenuous exercise or intramuscular injections may cause transient elevation of CK.

ISOENZYMES
MB:  <5.0 ng/mL

RELATIVE INDEX:  <2.5
The relative index represents the ratio of CK-MB to the CK, total. Relative index = (CK-MB, in ng/mL ÷ CK, total, U/L) x 100. Due to the different units measured (ng/mL for CK-MB vs. U/L for CK, total), this does not represent a true percentage and is, therefore, called a “relative index.” Currently, a relative index of ≥2.5 suggests the MB may be myocardial in origin. The relative index may be of particular value in patients who have elevated CK, total due to trauma or surgery.
